Dicing Chief Buddy
Summary
Dicing Chief Buddy was tasked with the game jam the roll of the dice. So we went for a game where you dice up fruit based on the roll of the dice and then shoot them to feed your customers in a swarm like fashion. The goal of the game is to acquire money by feeding your customers and to upgrade every type of food. Each food upgrade added a unique feature to the weapon like the crab turning into a melee attack.
What I Did
Me and the other programer Dylan Parker made all of the code for the game. This game gave us a lot of experience with using GitHub while using a project at the same time. So we were on the phone the entire time. What we each did overlapped a ton so I am not sure if anything is fully mine or his. In this game we made many gun systems, basic ai based on navmesh. We also made UI and implemented animations which was interesting to work on.
What I Learned
The primary thing this game taught me was how to use Git with a group super well. We were in a call the entire time so we had to communicate what elements we were changing. We never had any overlaps and had a great time showcasing our great teamwork! I also learned quite a bit about 3D navmesh and other tools since I hadn’t made too many games in 3D previously.Overall, it was a successful first official game jam!
